UPDATE: Rewrite, a new offer of Editor in Word, is now available in Monthly Channel (Targeted) for users running the latest build.

Hello, my name is Zhang and I am a Program Manager on the Office Natural Language Experiences team. I would like to share a new feature called Rewrite, a new offer of Editor in Word.

Ever found yourself repeating phrases or looking for better expressions when writing in Word? Check out Rewrite, a new offer of Editor in Word to quickly find alternative expressions for phrases in your writing.

How it works

Select and right-click a short phrase that you want to change, and click Rewrite (Preview).

The context menu for Rewrite in Word.

The Rewrite pane will open on the right side of your document, and will include both the original sentence (on the top) and the rewrite suggestion (on the bottom).

When you hover over the suggestion, you will also see a live preview (yellow highlight) in your document to help you evaluate the suggestion in the context of the original sentence. If you like one of the suggestions, you can simply click on it to change your sentence accordingly.

To make the feature more accessible, you can find Read Aloud features in the drop-down menu on the right side of each suggestion.

And if you think a certain suggestion is inappropriate, you can always report it back to us for review, via Report this suggestion in same drop-down menu.
