Hi Office Insiders! We are Kimberley from the Word team and Thomas from the Outlook team. We’re excited to introduce a new Microsoft Editor feature in Word and Outlook called text predictions.

Text Predictions

Text predictions help users write more efficiently by predicting text quickly and accurately. The feature reduces spelling and grammar errors and learns over time to give the best recommendations based on your writing style.

How it works

Simply start typing in a document in Word or in an email message in Outlook, and note that predictions start appearing. Press the TAB key to accept a prediction and the ESC key to reject it.

Text prediction learns and improves over time, but if you would like to turn it off, here’s how to do so in Outlook and Word.

Availability

Text predictions are supported in English only and available on the following platforms and builds:

Word:

  • The feature is available for 50% of Windows Beta Channel users running Version 2010 Build 13301.20004 or later.
  • This feature is starting to rollout to all Microsoft 365 SKUs on Word on the web except for Microsoft 365 Business Basic, Microsoft 365 F3, Microsoft 365 A1.

We typically release features over some time to ensure that things are working smoothly. This is true for Insiders as well. We highlight features that you may not have because they’re slowly releasing to larger numbers of Insiders. Sometimes we remove elements to further improve them based on your feedback. Though this is rare, we also reserve the option to pull a feature entirely out of the product, even if you, as Insiders, have had the opportunity to try them.

Privacy

Your data does not leave the tenant boundary. Text predictions use a machine learning model to make suggestions based on the text you have typed in the current document or email. The content is not stored or seen by any human unless donated as part of the feedback mechanism.

Feedback

We are actively working on this feature, and your feedback is key to guiding future improvements

If you have any general feedback, you can submit your comments using the following channels:

  • Word & Outlook for WindowsClick Help Improve Office button in the top right corner or click Help > Feedback.
  • Word on the web: Click Help > Feedback.
  • Outlook.com and Outlook on the web: Click the Help (?) button in the top right corner, then click Feedback at the bottom of the Help pane.

If you have specific suggestions, please send us feedback via our in-app feedback mechanism:

  • Word & Outlook for Windows: Rightclick a prediction and then select Text Predictions > Feedback for Text Predictions.
  • Word on the web: Click Text Predictions: On in the status bar, then click Give Feedback.
  • Outlook.com and Outlook on the webWhen a text prediction appears, you are automatically prompted to state whether the suggestion was helpful or not. If you click No, you are given the opportunity to provide more detailed feedback.
  • Outlook.com: Another way you can help refine this feature is to donate your actual emails so we can analyze their contents and improve the quality of suggestions in the future.
