Hello, I’m Guy, a Program Manager on the Excel team. I’m here today to share some exciting updates to Power Query in Excel for Mac. For instance, we’ve made it easier than ever to refresh your Power Query queries.
Updates to Power Query
When we introduced the Power Query technology in Excel for Mac, we heard from many of you that you loved it! It’s a powerful and time-saving set of tools to gather and analyze data quickly and easily.
In addition, we received a lot of feedback requesting the ability to refresh data from additional sources. Today, we’re announcing two great enhancements to data refresh capabilities. You can now refresh your Power Query queries on Mac from local tables and ranges, and from Microsoft SQL Server.

How it works
- To refresh your reports, click Data > Refresh All. Power Query queries that pull data from tables and ranges in your workbook will be automatically refreshed.
- To refresh your SQL queries in your workbook:
1. Click Data > Refresh All.
2. Upon the first access to the data source, you’ll be asked to specify the login credentials. Database level login credentials are currently supported.
3. To clear the existing login credentials, click Data > Connection > Clear Permissions.
Availability
This feature is available to Insider Fast users who are running Mac Version 16.35 Build (20022603) or later.
We typically release features over some time to ensure that things are working smoothly. This is true for Insiders as well. We highlight features that you may not have because they’re slowly releasing to larger numbers of Insiders. Sometimes we remove elements to further improve them based on your feedback. Though this is rare, we also reserve the option to pull a feature entirely out of the product, even if you, as Insiders, have had the opportunity to try them.

There are a couple of ways to give feedback and suggestions:
- Click the Feedback button near the top-right corner in Excel.
- After that, add #PowerQuery in your feedback so that we can find them easily.
