Hi Office Insiders! This is Sammy from the Office team. I am excited to share that we’ve added improved mouse and trackpad support to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint on iPad.

Use a mouse or trackpad

For customers who use a mouse or trackpad with their iPad, we’ve listened to your feedback and added some new features to help you take advantage of these devices. It’s now easier than ever to navigate the Office Ribbon or work with text, shapes, and cells using a mouse or trackpad.

Use a Pointing Device on iPad.

How it works

Connect your mouse or trackpad to your iPad.

Scenarios to try

Using a Bluetooth mouse or trackpad connected to your iPad, here are some scenarios to try:

  • Watch as the pointer changes shape when navigating Ribbon tabs and commands.
  • Select and edit text with more precision.
  • Choose multiple contiguous cells in Excel (Click + Drag, Shift + Click).
  • Select multiple objects such as shapes, text boxes and images in PowerPoint (Click + Drag, Shift + Click).

Requirements

  • iPad with iPadOS 13.4 or later.
  • iPad-compatible Bluetooth mouse or trackpad.

Availability

This feature is available to iOS Insiders running Version 2.42 (20092708) or later.

We typically release features over some time to ensure that things are working smoothly. This is true for Insiders as well. We highlight features that you may not have because they’re slowly releasing to larger numbers of Insiders. Sometimes we remove elements to further improve them based on your feedback. Though this is rare, we also reserve the option to pull a feature entirely out of the product, even if you, as Insiders, have had the opportunity to try them.
