Hi, Microsoft 365 Insiders! To ensure smoother meeting facilitation for both organizers and presenters, we’re excited to share that automatic lowering of a user’s Raised Hand after speaking in Teams meetings is now available in Teams Public Preview.

Automatic lowering of Raised Hand after speaking in Teams meetings

To reduce the number of stale raised hands in meetings, we now prompt you, as someone who raised your hand, to lower it after we detect you spoke in the meeting. If you don’t take any action on the suggestion notification, we’ll automatically lower your hand.

How it works

Users who raise their hand and speak in a Teams meeting will see a notification informing them that their hand will automatically be lowered soon. They will be able to choose whether to keep their hand raised.

Notification informing meeting attendee that their Raised Hand will be lowered shortly

If the user doesn’t take action on the notification, their hand will automatically be lowered.

Known limitations

Users will not see the notification and their hand will not be automatically lowered if the Noise suppression option is turned off in their Teams devices settings. Please note that Noise suppression is automatically turned off when your device has high CPU usage in order to preserve resources.

Availability

To be able to use this feature, users need to be members of the Teams Public Preview, and use Windows or macOS Teams client. Other users are not required to be members of the Teams Public Preview.

To enable your Teams client for the Public Preview, IT admins need to set an update policy that turns on Show preview features. Learn how at Public preview in Microsoft Teams.
