Hey, Office Insiders! I’m Jess Kwok, a Product Manager on the PowerPoint team. I’m excited to share that you can now export your presentations as videos with transparent backgrounds in PowerPoint for Mac!

Export your presentations with transparent backgrounds

We listen closely to customer feedback from PowerPoint users. One of the consistent pieces of feedback was that you wanted to be able to export your PowerPoint presentations with transparent backgrounds, which allows users to create video overlays and other engaging content.

We heard you! We’ve now added support for the ability to export your presentations as videos with transparent backgrounds. This opens up a wide variety of new creation scenarios in PowerPoint for Mac!

How it works

1. Open an existing PowerPoint presentation or create a new one.

2. Once you’re ready to export your presentation, you can access the Export dialog in one of two ways:

    • Click the File tab and select Export.

    • MOV file format with Apple ProRes4444 video compression type
    • MOV file format with HEVC video compression type

Known issues

Certain file formats and video compression types are not supported on all operating systems. Your exported video with transparent background may not play with transparency in PowerPoint for Windows or PowerPoint for the web.

Availability

We will be rolling this feature out to Office Insiders running Beta Channel Version 16.62 (Build 22052500) or later and Current Channel Preview Version 16.62 (Build 22060500) or later.

Don’t have it yet? It’s probably us, not you.

Features are released over some time to ensure things are working smoothly. We highlight features that you may not have because they’re slowly releasing to larger numbers of Insiders. Sometimes we remove elements to further improve them based on your feedback. Though this is rare, we also reserve the option to pull a feature entirely out of the product, even if you, as an Insider, have had the opportunity to try it.
