Hi Office Insiders! I’m Thomas Constantin, a Program Manager on the Outlook team and I’m excited to let you know about a new feature that enables you to quickly respond to messages using built-in, suggested replies.
Suggested replies
When you receive an email message that can be answered with a few words, Outlook can suggest three responses that you can use to reply with just a couple of clicks. Responses will not be available in all messages. Outlook uses a machine learning model to evaluate whether a message fits the criteria for a short, suggested reply, and, if so, presents some options.
How it works
When you open a message and see available suggested replies, select the most appropriate to insert it in the body of the message and click Send.
To turn off the feature, select File > Options > Mail >Replies & Forwards and clear the Show suggested replies check box.
Privacy
When you use the suggested replies, Outlook uses a machine learning model to generate and continually improve the accuracy of the suggestions. This model runs on the same servers as your mailbox within your organization. No message content is transmitted or stored outside of your organization.
Supported Languages
- English
- Spanish
- Portuguese
- French
- German
- Italian
- Simplified Chinese (People’s Republic of China only)
Known issue
- We are aware of and working to fix an issue where custom fonts chosen by the user are not respected when a suggested reply is selected.
Requirements
In order to try out the feature, you will need to be using an Enterprise license.
Availability
This feature is available to all Insiders running Beta Channel Version 2011 (Build 13416.10000) and later, and will be rolling out shortly to Insiders running Current Channel (Preview) builds.
We typically release features over some time to ensure that things are working smoothly. This is true for Insiders as well. We highlight features that you may not have because they’re slowly releasing to larger numbers of Insiders. Similarly, sometimes we remove elements to improve them. Though rare, we also reserve the option to pull a feature entirely out of the product.
Feedback
When you receive an email with a suggested reply, there will be a Feedback button to the right of the suggestions. Click the button to open the Feedback pane and let us know what you think of the feature.
You can state whether you found the feature helpful or not helpful. If you select the latter, you will be given the opportunity to choose from a list of common reasons. If you select Other, you will be able to type additional feedback that we will review.
