Hi Office Insiders! My name is Kimberley Chua, and I’m a Product Manager on the Word team. I’m excited to announce that Simple Markup view is now available in Word for the web.

We’ve heard your feedback! You need to be able to view Word documents that contain tracked changes in a way that’s less distracting, and you want more control over how your document is displayed in Word for the web. Simple Markup view addresses both of those needs.

If you use Word for Windows or Word for Mac, you may already be familiar with Simple Markup view and its benefits. It keeps suggestions from others—both tracked changes and comments—on the periphery, allowing you to focus on the document itself while remaining aware that there are suggestions present.

How it works

1. In any Word for the web document, click the Review tab.

2. Click the arrow to the right of the Markup view button, and then select Markup in margin (Simple Markup) from the list.

Availability

We’ll be rolling this feature out to all web users over the next month or so.

Don’t have it yet? It’s probably us, not you.

Features are released over some time to ensure things are working smoothly. We highlight features that you may not have because they’re slowly releasing to larger numbers of Insiders. Sometimes we remove elements to further improve them based on your feedback. Though this is rare, we also reserve the option to pull a feature entirely out of the product, even if you, as an Insider, have had the opportunity to try it.

Feedback

We are actively working on this feature, and your feedback is key to guiding future improvements. You can submit comments by clicking on Help > Feedback; please tag your feedback with #markupview to make sure we see it!
