Hi Microsoft 365 Insiders! My name is Juan Karmy and I’m a Product Manager for the Modern Collaboration team. I’m excited to share that Smart Save reminders for documents on your local drive are now available in Word.

Smart Save reminders for documents on your local drive

Word uses machine learning to assess whether you are likely to save your progress on a file stored on your local drive. Using various attributes, such as how much time you’ve spent working on the file or how much content you’ve added, Smart Save reminders may show up to suggest you save your changes.

You may have already seen Smart Save reminders since they’re currently available in new unsaved documents. These reminders help reduce the risk of accidentally losing your work.

How it works

The next time you open and work on a Word file previously saved on your local drive, a reminder to save your updates may appear on the screen. Simply select the Save button and keep working.

Availability

Smart Save reminders for documents on your local drive are available to Beta Channel users who are using Version 2212 Build 15919.10000 or later.

Don’t have it yet? It’s probably us, not you.

Features are released over some time to ensure things are working smoothly. We highlight features that you may not have because they’re slowly releasing to larger numbers of Insiders. Sometimes we remove elements to further improve them based on your feedback. Though this is rare, we also reserve the option to pull a feature entirely out of the product, even if you, as an Insider, have had the opportunity to try it.

Feedback

Please share your feedback with us directly from Word by going to Help > Feedback. Add #SmartSaveReminders in your feedback so we can find it faster. We’re excited to hear from you!
