Greetings, Insiders! I’m Derik Stenerson from the Office team. We’re glad to share that the much requested synonyms feature you know and love for Windows and Mac is now available in Word and PowerPoint for the web!

Synonyms feature look up

Many of you have requested on UserVoice that the synonyms lookup feature be made available in our apps for the web. We’re excited to make that happen! Now you have the ability to lookup synonyms for any word while working on documents and presentation on the web.

How it works

Synonyms feature in Word.

  1. Simply select and right-click on any word in your document or presentation, and then click Synonyms.
  2. In the Search pane, click the word you want to use after reviewing the list of synonyms to insert it in your document or presentation.

Known issues

The insert function doesn’t automatically select and replace the word in the document if you just right-click it. Rather double-click the entire word to select it and then right-click.

Feedback

In Word for the Web or PowerPoint for the web, click Help > Feedback.

Learn what other information you should include in your feedback to ensure  it’s actionable and reaches the right people. We’re excited to hear from you!
