Hi, Office Insiders! We are Senzeni and Shruthi, Program Managers on the Outlook and Word teamsWe are excited to share with you that grammar and style suggestions are now available in Outlook for 64-bit Windows users.  This feature has been requested on UserVoice, and is powered by Microsoft Editor, the same writing assistant that powers grammar and other intelligent suggestions in Word and Outlook web clients today.

Grammar and style suggestions

You can now proactively get grammar and advanced style recommendations as you draft your emailsThis is our first foray into providing grammatical assistance by default in Outlook for WindowsCheck out the blue underlined and gold dotted underlines words to review our grammar and advanced style suggestions.

Advanced style suggestions are optional and based on writing style, such as conciseness, using active voice, and eliminating filler words.

Tailoring Grammar suggestions

By default, Editor checks for several categories of issues defined by rules and it is likely that some suggestions are at odds with your writing style. If you ever see a blue or gold underline on text that you don’t want to change, you can always fine tune Editor’s recommendations.

To turn off a suggestion, right-click the text and select Don’t check for this issue.

Availability

Windows: This feature is available in Outlook to 64-bit Office Insiders running Beta Channel Version 2008 (Build 13124.2000) or later.

We typically release features over some time to ensure that things are working smoothly. This is true for Insiders as well. We highlight features that you may not have because they’re slowly releasing to larger numbers of Insiders. Sometimes we remove elements to further improve them based on your feedback. Though this is rare, we also reserve the option to pull a feature entirely out of the product, even if you, as Insiders, have had the opportunity to try them.
